Bill Sage, Dwight Ewell, and Miho Nikaido.

In New York…

Bill is a good-natured but spoiled guy whose girlfriend , Emily, gives him an ultimatum two hours before leaving on a three-month trip to Paris: make a commitment or end the relationship. Bill asks for 90 minutes to think it over. As he sets out to borrow a friend’s car in order to take Emily to the airport, he investigates what he considers to be the only remaining romantic possibility in his life – a married woman named Margaret. The flirtation turns to smoke when Bill finds himself tending to Margaret’s husband Walter, who wants to shoot himself because his wife doesn’t love him anymore. In trying to save Walter from himself, Bill winds up getting shot in the face, and after a few excruciating hours in the hospital he rushes to the airport.

While in Berlin…

Dwight is a precocious young American who lives with Johan, an older German art dealer. Johan is flying to New York on business for three months and demands to know, before he leaves, whether their relationship has a future. Dwight charms the reluctant Johan into giving him 90 minutes to think it over, then promptly sets up a rendezvous with a particularly fascinating (and married) painter named Werner.

Whereas in Tokyo…

A quiet and unassuming dance student named Miho is kissed by her respected teacher, Mister Ozu. Rumors mount and Ozu’s wife and principle dancer, Yuki, goes mad, finds a gun and threatens to shoot herself. Meanwhile, Miho’s American boyfriend is about to go to Los Angeles for three months and he wants to know if he and Miho have a future together. In this version, Miho’s indecision is complicated by her concern for the effects of her teacher’s kiss on his distraught wife. She is drawn back to the dance school and makes an unexpected sacrifice.
